WHAT IS IT? The RCMP Stetsons & Spurs Program is offered through your local detachment. You will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities, each one new and challenging. You will also be trained in various subjects that relate to Policing, as well as life skills. WHO CAN JOIN? The Program is open to all youth between the ages of 14 & 18 inclusive, provided they are in good standing with the community. HOW MUCH WILL IT COST? Cost will vary from program to program. Troops will help to raise their own funds, keeping expenses to a minimum. YOU WILL REQUIRE: * A Spurs Uniform (provided) * Annual Membership fees - $40 * Weekly dues (for activities) PURPOSE OF PROGRAM The program should provide the opportunity for youth to experience the "police vocation" and increase the youth's personal skills in order to become the future leaders in their community. The Stetsons & Spurs program should also promote events where youth can develop their social skills and have fun. GOALS 1. To provide community service 2. To develop the leadership skills of the Stetsons and Spurrs 3. To develop relationships between the Youth and the RCMP. 4. To create awareness of the program to the community. ORGANIZATION A Troop must use the rank structure of the RCMP and may decide to develop a promotional system. An organizational chart should be posted showing all the Youth/Advisors and support groups. LEADERSHIP The Stetsons & Spurs troop will have a RCMP member as a leader. The member will then make an effort to involve other adults from the community to act as advisors. This allows flexibility to the program and duties of the advisors. Advisors must be of good moral character and interested in the relationship between the RCMP and community. All participants must meet the RCMP's security standards. TRAINING AND ACTIVITIES The following are examples of training subjects and activities: * law * leadership * first aid * RCMP history * RCMP equipment * RCMP procedures * drill (as in marching and taking orders) * various sports * camps * guest speakers * simulation training CHECK BACK HERE OFTEN FOR PHOTOS OF SPURS EVENTS
