Kings Detachment of the RCMP covers the Municipality of Kings, with the exception of the Town of Kentville, in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. Formed in early 2000 by combining the Detachment offices of New Minas and Kingston, the Kings Detachment is commanded by Inspector David Brown. This office also supports the Municipal RCMP offices in the towns of Berwick and Wolfville.
Also located in New Minas, in a seperate building is the South West Nova District office. South West Nova, of which Kings Detachment is a part, is commanded by Superintendant B. McKnight.
Kings County is the greatest growth area outside of metro Halifax. This County has more to offer in the line of just about everything than anywhere else in the Province. From it's large agricultural base to light industry, education, recreation, tourism, history, culture, and a living pace that is the envy of the world. Ten minutes from the Bay of Fundy shore, location the highest tides in the world, with fishing villages providing fresh fish and lobster, to recreational hiking areas (but be careful, the tides come in fast if you are walking the shore line!!). One and a half hours from metro Halifax if you want the faster life style. Two hours from Yarmouth and the ferries to the USA. One hour from the South Shore of Nova Scotia and the wonderful sandy beaches of Rissers Beach, Green Bay, Cherry Hill and many others.
Kings County abounds with fruit orchards and farm markets, providing fresh produce for the supper table and a chance to experience working on a farm too!
Family oriented life is greatly acknowledged in Kings County. With many community skating rinks for organized hockey, and sports fields for baseball and soccor leagues in many of the towns and villages. And there is a very active organization of live theatre and performing arts in the County for anyone to get involved in. Swimming, hiking, snowmobiling, mountain biking, horseback riding, camping, scouting and guiding, sailboarding, recreational boating, canoeing both lake/river and open sea, all have a place in Kings County. And an abundance of opportunities to volunteer are available here too, from volunteer fire departments, church groups, hospital auxilliaries, Red Cross, scouts and guides, arts groups, sports groups, RCMP groups, search and rescue organization, teen help groups.
Kings County has all the weather you could ask for also. Summers can be hot, making the beaches and Fundy shore more inviting; autumn has the crisp mornings with warm days and lots of colour; winter can be an exciting time for the snowy activities and lots of hockey with the winter trails being great fun; and spring is always a great relief from the winter with the sun warming everything and things turning green again. It seems that the rotation in Kings County almost cycles around the end of May when we have one of the largest festivals in Canada - the Apple Blossom Festival, with parades, parties, great food, and Princesses. Yes, Apple Blossom time seems to start life fresh in Kings County and the Annapolis Valley every year. |
